Galactic Civilizations II is the sequel to 2003's hit turn-based strategy game of the same name.

The player takes on the role of the leader of a space-faring civilization and must guide its expansion in a hostile galaxy. Gamers must balance their economic, technological, diplomatic, cultural, and military power to forge alliances, fight wars, and ultimately dominate the galaxy.

The game is single-player and allows the player to play randomly generated galactic maps or play through a multi-mission campaign that tells the story of an ancient enemy called the Dread Lords.

• Ship Design: Players can now create their own ships, from the design of the hull itself to the placement of weapons, engines and more.
• Unique Planets: The amount of structures a planet can build is now based on its rating. Create dedicated worlds based on special attributes or other factors.
• New Map System: Worlds are now displayed right on the game map in full 3D.
• Play as any Race: Choose to play as one of 10 races or create your own!
• Fleets: Create fleets of ships that don't simply stack, but affect combat in a coordinated fire fight.
• Enhanced Combat System: Construct ships using three forms of attack and defense including beam weapons, mass drivers, shields and more.
• 3D Engine: Using a brand new 3D engine, players will be able to see the galaxy as never before, and at any screen resolution.
